Dr James Aquilina is a highly qualified Endodontist at Caring Dental. He graduated from Guy’s Hospital in 1992 with a BDS and completed a part-time MSc in Endodontics at Guy’s Hospital in 1999. Endodontics is the branch of dentistry that focuses on the treatment of the dental pulp and root canal systems to save natural teeth that might otherwise require extraction.
James is a member of several prestigious dental societies, including the British Dental Association (BDA), the British Endodontic Society, the European Society of Endodontology, and the American Association of Endodontists.
James began his career with House Officer postings in Children’s Dentistry and Oral Surgery before completing vocational training in general dentistry. He practiced mainly private dentistry in Berkshire before returning to London to specialise in endodontics. After completing his Master’s degree, James remained at Guy’s Hospital as a part-time staff member, teaching undergraduates, supervising postgraduate students, and treating patients. He provided an endodontic referral service in several practices during this period and was entered onto the General Dental Council’s Endodontic Specialist List in May 2012.
Since leaving Guy’s, James has expanded his specialist endodontic practices in Kent and Essex. He is committed to staying current with the latest advancements in endodontics and regularly attends courses and conferences in the UK and abroad. James has been an active member of the British Endodontic Society council, organising and supervising national courses and lectures in endodontics aimed at general dental practitioners. He is also the founder of several endodontic study clubs and has contributed as an author for Dental Insights and as a guest editor for Endodontic Practice.
James is passionate about providing the highest quality of care through a patient-centred approach, ensuring patients feel comfortable and well-informed throughout their treatment.
Outside of dentistry, James is a professional scuba diver with a passion for underwater photography. He supports marine conservation efforts, regularly donates blood, and enjoys spending time with his family. He is also fluent in Italian.
James works with us one Wednesday a month.
